I emailed Gilbert and got a rather bland response from his LA. The Northern VA Daily has a comment section online. Free but you have to register. Raising Kaine picked it up. I'm interested in his response to Seth.... "words have meaning." Yes they do Delegate Gilbert... and yours are disgusting... they speak more about your lust for power and your crazed overtly partisan attitudes than they do about Barack Obama. May this be your last term.

I called his legislative assistant, an older guy who responded to my opening volley invoking Welch at the McCarthy hearings, "Have you no sense of decency?" by telling me he'd watched it at the time.
I was left with the impression that he was a bit embarrassed by Gilbert's words, and that we might see some kind of a walk-back from that. He characterized those labels as "outdated".
The guy was actually very nice, and is gonna come look at the blog.
All in all, a pleasant but short conversation.
You know what they say: you catch more files with honey than vinegar.
But knowing me as you do, Adam, you already know that's generally my style.

Thanks for the critique. I understand that you fancied my comments as
somewhat less than intelligent. Pretty sure you called me unethical as
well. However, words do have meanings. And, the definition of Marxism
clearly applies to the political and social philosophies of the most
leftist (as measured by his own voting record) member of the United States
Senate. Barrack Obama has a more leftist voting record than his colleague
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who for years actually ran and got
elected to Congress as a member of the "Socialist" party. Barrack Obama
uses class struggle as a key tool of his poltiical ideology. He finds
government to be the solution to every single problem we have, a position
which would ultimately and purposely erode free markets, capitalist ideals,
private property rights, individual liberty and personal freedom in favor
of centralized bureaucracies where the collective "people" are in charge of
it all, if by "people" he means liberal elites. If the definition scares
people, I think freedom-loving Americans should be scared of Senator
Obama's agenda. I know I am. Words mean things. I'd say that using a
technical definition that accurately portrays Obama's political belief
system is pretty "honest communication". As a Republican voter, I am sorry
that you see it otherwise. Thanks again for writing.

Representative Gilbert,

I wanted to let you know that I was dissapointed with your recent comments regarding Senator Obama. It may be that you take valid issue with some of Obama's social and political positions and because I did not hear your comments directly, I cannot assume that you categorically classified Obama as a Marxist without articulating some sort of reasoned support for such an extreme statement. However, the way in which your words have been reported does indeed make it seem as if you intended your statement as more of a generally unfounded criticism meant to foment uncertainty and fear amongst your constituents than a rational assesment of the discrepancies between your positions and those of Mr. Obama. I would encourage you to aspire to be better than this. While capitalizing on people's fears and reservations may be politically effective, I believe that the future of the Republican Party lies in the honest communication and savvy marketing of principles, not in ethically questionable manipulation.

I vote Republican because I believe that more often than not, it is the best thing for this country. In the future, please do your part to convince people of this in a more intelligent way.

As they say, great minds think alike. Our posts hit at almost the same moment. But you have that great pic of konvict karl being led away. Bob Goodlatte is a member of the House Judiciary Committee. Hope folks will email Bob and remind him of his striking words about standing up for the rule of law and all that back in the late 90s. Tell him if he doesn't stand on principle, he stands for nothing. But, as a loyal Bush lapdog, we can't expect him to do much except wag his tail and say "yes master."

After Obama's most recent BLUNDERS he's now ranked at beating McCain by a 3% margin (I refer you to http://www.truthout.org/articl... or you can read it on any progressive site. I think O'bama's support of FISA (especially as a civil rights attorney)will permanently harm our party and his chances.
I doubt it would have mattered if Nader had received 60% of the votes. Bush was going to win. As for your reference to Allen, you need to remember the word is out on Sam Rasoul. I think I read it on Star City Harbinger under recent comments, he announced a press conference scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th at the Roanoke County Jail(?) Although the comment was intended to poke fun at Sam, it was a valid point. A press conference at a county jail?

Who is sponsoring Democrats for Janice Lee Allen? Is there a website?
